"The seed is the word of God" (Luke 8:11).
As Jesus was expounding the parable of the sower to his
disciples, he said "Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?" (Mark 4:13). Hence,
understanding this key is of great importance. The following paragraphs provide some insight about this
key, which is necessary to open one's understanding of the parables of the Bible and their meaning.
Jesus revealed that "The sower soweth the Word" (Mark 4:14). That should
cause one to ask; What is the Word? "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God" (John 1:1). But is the Word of God just words, or is there something more to it? Hasn't the Bible been
around for centuries, the words written therein having been interpreted by countless individuals in various ways?
How do I know what is the Word and what are just words?
Referring to Jesus, one Apostle wrote "And the Word was made flesh and
dwelt among us..." (John 1:14). But others have certainly stated that Jesus is the living Word of God. A
better question might be; How do we know that? Think about what happened when John the Baptist baptized Jesus in
Jordan. According to Cruden's Concordance in the Table of Proper Names, Jordan means "river of judgment" (p.
582). Hence, the immersion of Jesus in Jordan symbolized the "...washing of water by the Word" (Ephesians
5:26). But it is not by water only because one witness will not suffice (1 John 5:6). That is why, as Jesus
emerged from the water, the heavens were opened and the Spirit descended upon him. That is when God declared "Thou art my
beloved Son..." (Mark 1:10-11). Therefore, the seed or Son of God is not the word
alone, but the Word as revealed by the Holy Ghost.
